Why Lived Experience Matters in Social Impact Leadership

When I say I bring my lived experience to the social impact work I do, this is what I mean. I am reflecting on the personal experiences I've had and using that lens to bring provide nuance and empathy to complex situations we often navigate in this field.

I can say, "I know how I felt when I navigated a nonlinear education journey as a young person." Or, "Having a trusted mentor growing up I could confide in gave me a support system I didn't have access to." Those firsthand narratives (and many others) give me a perspective in which I can provide strategic solutions to help teams make an impact that is human-first ALWAYS.

Having the opportunity to lead as a consultant for five years as of this month is a true privilege. Through WordSpark Consulting, I'm able to honor my past and present and serve as a leader who's been there, guiding clients through scenarios and decisions that are centered on community care.

I am particularly grateful to have collaborated on special projects and initiatives with teams who are advancing change across philanthropy, environmental justice, education, youth mentoring and arts and culture.
May 2026 bring you an abundance of renewal, joy and an ability to guide others through authenticity!
